About Karen
Karen Selby is a registered nurse and Board Certified Patient Advocate at The Mesothelioma Center, bringing over three decades of experience in oncology and thoracic surgery. With a deep commitment to improving the lives of patients, Karen has developed specialized expertise in assisting with lung-related surgeries, such as lung resections, transplants, pleurectomies and other lung procedures.
Karen has a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of South Alabama and a master’s in business administration from the University of Central Florida. Her education has provided her with a unique combination of clinical knowledge and business acumen, which she has applied throughout her career. In addition to her clinical work, she played a pivotal role in leading the tissue procurement program at the University of Florida, showcasing her deep commitment to advancing cancer research and improving patient resources.
Since joining The Mesothelioma Center in 2009, Karen has dedicated herself to providing compassionate and personalized support to mesothelioma patients and their families. She appeared on The Balancing Act on Lifetime, where she shared her expertise and insights into mesothelioma and the resources available to patients and families. Understanding that each patient’s journey is unique, she works closely with individuals to identify their specific needs and connect them to the resources, treatments and guidance they require to navigate their diagnosis. Her approach combines her clinical expertise with a deep sense of empathy, ensuring that patients feel empowered and supported throughout their treatment process.
